I met Shannon and Mike at Huntington Beach for their engagement session. They are getting married later this month, and wanted an image to include with their announcements. After talking with Shannon about her wedding, and how she and Mike met (yoga class), and their love of nature, we decided the beach would be a perfect setting for their engagement session.
I love photographing at sunset (I’m too much of a night owl to get up early and shoot at sunrise). The golden light is beautiful, giving me warm, tawny images that fit with Shannon and Mike’s outdoorsy lifestyle. These two are so quietly comfortable with each other, so silently delighted to be together, that it was easy to photograph them. We chatted and waited for the light to be just right. I admit that I took photos while we were talking. I like images that are up close and personal, photos that show the connection between people. It’s a tricky thing, capturing those private feelings with a giant lens. Sometimes it take a little subterfuge, a little cajoling, a teensy bit of direction…and a little sunset light helps, too.
“We’re just hoping for one good shot,” Shannon said.
I think we got it… 😉
Congratulations Shannon and Mike! I can’t wait to photograph your wedding!
