Kate and Brian’s intimate chapel wedding was followed by a New Orleans style second line parade to the Hotel at Oberlin. It was my very first second line brass experience, and it was sooo fun.
I met Kate when I photographed her sister’s wedding in 2009. Their family was particularly lovely to work with, so I was super excited when she reached out to say she was getting married. Meeting up with Kate and her sisters at Adeva Salon in Oberlin was like reconnecting with old friends.
Kate and Brian had a private first look in her hotel room. From there we toured Oberlin College’s campus on Lolly the Trolley, taking photos on the square and by a lovely wall with a portrait of Frida Kahlo on it. No matter where we went, Kate and Brian were up for whatever crazy suggestion I had–whether it was poses or locations. Honestly, I’m not sure they even noticed I was there. They kind of only had eyes for each other 🙂
The best part of the day, by far, was the second line brass band parade. When Kate told me about it, I had to look it up online to see what she was talking about. Basically, she and Brian sealed their vows with a kiss, then walked back up the aisle as husband and wife. She slipped into her leather jacket (love!), and they and a brass band led everyone across the square to the reception at the Hotel at Oberlin. Check out some of my favorite images from their wedding below:
Congratulations Kate and Brian!
