Cleveland Museum of Art wedding party photographer
This one's a favorite of mine. We caught a break in the rain during wedding party portraits near Wade Oval at the Cleveland Museum of Art, and the groomsmen had already loosened up — I found them mid-goofing-around, posed back to chest and grabbing each other, just having fun while we waited out the weather.
I laughed with them for a second, then asked if we could do a pose I had in mind. I was going for a specific look— something moodier and more editorial than a typical lineup shot — and they were game for it, climbing right up onto the stone railing along the water without a second thought. That's partly what makes this photo work: they trusted me enough to try something different, and they committed to it.
The overcast sky actually worked in our favor here, giving everything this soft, even light with no harsh shadows, while the museum's classical architecture and the water behind them added just enough texture without pulling focus from the group. I love how the railing let me stagger their heights and create this layered, dynamic composition instead of a flat row of four guys standing shoulder to shoulder.
The bride and groom loved this shot so much they included it in their album, and it's easy to see why — it's got personality, a little edge, and it shows exactly what kind of guys these were on the wedding day: adventurous enough to climb up on a ledge in nice suits for a photo that actually looks like them.
