From the archives: Brooke and Sean’s beautiful Shoreby Club wedding in Bratenahl.
It’s so wonderful to see people get everything they want.
When I met Brooke, we talked about her wedding, what kind of event she wanted, her relationship with Sean, how long she had waited to find the right guy, and how wonderful it was to finally be with him. After that conversation, I felt such a connection with her, and I knew I wanted to photograph this woman’s wedding. I didn’t know it would have one of the most exciting wedding reveals I’ve ever witnessed.
The day started off just like any other wedding. I arrived at Shoreby Club and documented Brooke slipping into her gorgeous lacy dress. I trailed behind as she tripped down the stairs and ran outside to say hello to Sean for their first look.
We went to the Cleveland Museum of Art for photos around the lagoon, then returned to Shoreby Club for a moving ceremony by the water under a stunning chuppah by Neil Leeson Decor. Cocktail hour was full of drinks and well wishers. Brooke couldn’t stop smiling, and Sean was beaming. I should have caught on that there was an extra something to those smiles, but I was busy looking at light and thinking about shutter speeds.
And then there was the reception. When it was time for toasts, Brooke and Sean nearly blew the roof off the tent with their surprise announcement that they were expecting a baby. The place erupted in applause, shouts and tears of joy. It was so much happiness in one place, it gave me goosebumps. I’m pretty sure astronauts in space could see Brooke and Sean’s giant happy smiles.
